More Goodies! Baby goodies that is!

Being pregnant for the 5th time.....you know what to buy and what NOT to buy. I refuse to buy a Medela Breast Pump fir full price! I highly suggest borrowing, buying off of eBay for 1/2 the price or renting. Don't go eewing and grossing out. It's not unsanitary like you may think. The best part about using a Medela breast pump? All of the attachments and the bottles are all replaceable and dishwasher safe. So if you borrow or rent, buy new tubes...they're only about 5.00 a pair. The bottles/containers? Sterilize the good old fashion way by boiling in hot water for about10 minutes or wash them out in your dishwasher. If that's not good enough and you're still grossing out, buy the new bottles from medela and you're home free. The breast shields are also dishwasher safe and you can also sterilize them too by boiling. If you work at a hospital you can get parts from labor/delivery and they usualy just hand 'em out like you're trick or treating! (The advantage of being in the medical profession!) The tubing are also the same type of tubes used in the hospital for respiratory/oxygen related supplies. If you contact your local La Leche League or know of a lactation nurse in your city, they will GIVE you the tubing free and or charge you very little for replacement parts. Most of these nurses are soo gungho about moms breastfeeding, they'd rather give parts free to encourage nursing for a longer period of time. When I fiinished borrowing my friend, Sherri's pump, I had the intentions to replace parts for her. So I went to a lactation nurse that lived locally to buy parts from her. I figure, my best friend since 5th grade saved me 200.00 from having to buy one, why not do my friend a favor and replace some parts for her? I got her new tubing, new breast shields, and new storage containers. The lactation nurse gave them to me all free of charge!
Now that it's been 8 years. Sherri cannot find her pump. She thinks she threw it away! (omg, right?!) Well she's done having babies so there was no need to keep hers. I think she said the sucking mechanism was dying anyways. 2 other girlfriends have pumps. One is using hers til March 2009 which won't work for me since our baby is due in December. Then my other friend is due in Feb 2009 and she plans to use it too.(did I tell you we have 20 friends and family members having babies this year?) Yesterday I looked online to my company benefit site for discount on the Medela Breast Pump. The pump retails for 300.00 now and the discount we get will only knock off about 20.00. I was thinking how insane the cost is BUT! Medela pumps are EXTREMELY good. So I decided to go to eBay. Good ol eBay. The one I borrowed from my friend, Sherri was the original pump in style breast pump. Square and nice leather bag. There are quite a few on the auction block but it was hard to tell how old the pumps were and a lot said they're gently used. It can mean it's 5 years old but mom could've used it for 1 year. So that means the pump's been sitting for the last 3-4 years collecting dust. So i was skeptical about getting one that is old b/c i was worried about the suction mechanism. Quite a few sellers on eBay said their suction mechanism was not as good as it was in the beginning and that putting it at the highest setting worked. I thought, well that's not too great then. So I looked for the newer model , the compact one and the backpack. One gal was selling hers-a backpack model. She had it for buy it now or auction. She has extra things (new) that she was putting w/the pump too that she never got to open or use. (Dr. Brown bottles...new unopened storage bags..etc) I figure, I can take the extras, give the Dr Brown bottles away (i'm an Avent mom) and take a look at extras and figure it out once it all arrives. So there you have it...$100.00 for the Pump in Style Traveler Backpack pump. What a deal!
