Not So Eventful Halloween Night...

It started out good actually until we went to this one house where this old lady had a uncontrollable barking dog at the door. Bryce was so scared he froze at the lady's door, plugged his ear and practically spilled his candies all over the floor. He was so freaked out, he wouldn't move! Meanwhile, the lady at the door tried to hold her dog back while we convinced Bryce to walk away quickly and away from the house. As soon as he walked away and we were almost to the next house, I heard the dog come charging out the door, leash whipping all about, & the owner yelling at her dog to come back. I turned around and here comes the dog barking away at us. I stopped in hope that it would calm down & go back to his owner. Nope..wrong move! He came charging at me. I felt a nudge, a wet snout and a bite behind my leg. I had no idea what to make of it except I remember saying, Oh shit, he bit me! I think he bit me b/c the back of my leg stung and it was wet. I couldn't see what he had done b/c it was dark and Dave thought maybe it was the leash that hit me instead of him biting me. Although there were no puncture wound, there was 4 lines of scrapes, between 2 major marks which I think were his K9s...Although I initially thought of the dog as a stupid dog, I quickly realize, it wasn't even the dog's fault. It was the stupid owner. Why didn't she get a better handle on her dog or have someone hold the dog when she answered the door. Better yet, put the dog behind a gate if she was going to give out treats on Halloween? If her dog was out of control, she shouldn't even have even given out candy and should've just turned off her porch light. Save the dog from going crazy in the first place for every person that comes and rings the doorbell!

We decided not to take any chances on the wound that I could see in the dark. We walked back to our house, looked at my wound, cleaned it up and put neosporin on it. Because I have gestational diabetes right now, I bruise easily . When the dog ran his snout into me and nipped me, you can tell how his snout came right at me. It's a good thing he didn't bite me hard enough to puncture through my skin, but his charging at me left me bruised pretty good. You can tell by the way he ran into me that he slide into the back of my leg and left a long bruise mark as well as teeth scratches.

The rest of the night, Bryce was done with trick or treating. For every house that we walked by that had a barking dog, he just froze and didn't move. One house had a chihuahua locked up behind a gate, because it was yelping away like mad, Bryce was so scared he would NOT move or take another step. Again, he plugged his ears and nearly tipped his pumpkin full of candy out and almost spilled it again. Dave realized this dog is the same dog that barks all night long & never stops. We knew it was one house next to house behind us but didn't quite know which house. When the dog barked the way it did on Halloween, Dave realized that is the dog that barks all the time and into the wee hours of the night! This goes to say that the owner shouldn't even own a dog she can't even get her dog to stop barking let alone control her dog on Halloween!

Anyhow, I am ok and I'm glad the dog nipping wasn't something horribly dangerous or tragic. I am also glad it wasn't Bryce that got nipped either. That would've been such a traumatic experience for him! Bad enough he's scared of dogs but can you imagine if he got bit? I am thinking about talking to the owner and telling her what her dog did to me that night, but what if that dog comes at me again? Maybe it's not worth my time or effort. At least I know if I hear that dog barking all night long again, we now know who's dog it is and we can call the police now.
I hope you all had a fun Halloween! Despite the uneventful night, our Halloween turned out pretty good...

Here is a pic of the back of my leg 2 days later...the teeth scratches between the bruises are gone now...

This is why I HATE dogs and dog owners. I'm sure she was telling you he wouldn't hurt a fly, right? I'm so sorry she was so dumb and that her dog was mean.

Think of it this way, (I like dogs a lot and would love to own one but that's not something Dave would be ok with. He's just not an animal kind of caring person! hahaha.
It was not the dog's fault, it's the owner! She should've trained it or put the dog through doggy school! I don't even want to bother w/her or go to her about it. She just might say her dog wouldn't hurt a flea so you're right about that! I'm just glad nothing happened to me or Bryce.

Wow, those are some major bruises. I'm glad he didn't break the skin. I agree--the owner should have locked him up in a bedroom or something.
