So it's Dad's turn to suggest names...

2nd half of the day, I'm on the phone booking flights for my mom and dad.

My dad picks up the phone and goes,
"I have a name!! How about Derrick/Derek?"
I said, "oh, not bad." I know a lot of chinese/asian kids names are named Derrick/Derek. (Derek Wong, Derek Lee, Derek Kim, Derek Yee....etc) We grew up w/alot of Dereks...In fact, Kyle was a childhood friend of my little brother and Kyle is my child number 2. Now that Dad suggested Derek, Derek was also a childhood friend of my little brother too. Wouldn't that be funny Child number 4 is Derek, another childhood friend of my little brother. Too funny...

Then he goes (in his chinese accent), "ok how about Grant."
I said. " Grant?"
He goes, "no Glen as in John Glen. G-L-E-N"
I'm thinking but not really putting it all together b/c I do know who he is, I just didn't really think long enough to figure out who John Glen truly is, so I asked,
"Who's John Glen? Why Glen?
He goes, "you know? The astronaut, name the baby after John Glen. He's famous, he walked on the moon and has something to do w/space. Dave works on space programs and rockets, right? Didn't he build part of the engine on the Space Shuttle?"
I said, "yup! he sure did!"

He goes, "Since Dave works and does stuff w/spacecrafts. Put Dave's experience and a famous astronaut together and you have Glen! No John since John is too popular"

That's my dad for you. He's so sweet. I forget that all of our names are from people of some importance...Jeff (older brother) for Thomas Jefferson and b/c he was born in June, it had to be J name. I was born in January, so that meant my name had to start w/a J, too. There wasn't anyone quite important at the time he could think of, but he named me Jennifer, after Guinevere, some princess. From what mom told me, Dad wanted a girl so bad, that when I was born, he was so proud, it drove mom nuts. The doctor that delivered me told dad that Jennifer was some princess in the old days of a Welsh country. Dad jumped right at that name and that became my name. Mom said that was one of the happiest days ever for Dad. Wayland was born in October but there were no O names that mom & dad liked. When he was born, some nobel peace prize winner was just announced and it was some guy named Wayland. So Dad picked Wayland for my little brother's name. Then came my little sister, Wenda. Dad didn't pick her name out. Wenda was born in June and none of us wanted another J name. We wanted to pick a W name b/c it would make it 2 J names and 2 W names. It was between Wendy, Wanda, Wonder (i think my mom wasn't pronouncing it right and we think she meant Wanda the whole time and not Wonder)and I want to say Winnie too. I think I suggested Wenda b/c it was betwn Wendy and Wanda and it was different. So that's how Wenda got her name. I know she hated her name forever too but I think she likes it now...

Unfortunately, I dont quite like Glen for a name but Dad was soo sweet to pick a name that relates to Dave and to someone famous connected to Dave's work. I hope Dad comes up w/a few more names. That just touches me in so many ways that he picked a name like he did w/us when we were born.

I also asked my inlaws to do the same. I gave them homework to do. I told my MIL to ask Gpa Chittock if he has any name suggestions too. After all, they are the gparents too! Gotta get some input from them and see what they come up with..... let's see what they come up with.

You mean you don't like Evad or Divad??? I can't imagine why! I did suggest Neil(could be as in Armstrong)...well Nnyl, make sure you hold out the "nnnn". Ha! I know...I am so annoying! But that's what little sister's are for.

p.s. What about Viadd? That's the word verification to post this obnoxious comment. You may think about Thor, too. Then maybe Uncle Dave will give you more than his "great appreciation" after some negotiation. Good luck with that one!
