5 months old

Can't believe our little guy is already 5 months old. Sorta scary because at 4 months he looked like a 6 month old and acts like a 6 months old. He's just growing superfast and is just soaking up the world around him.

  • At 5 months he is able to: roll over back to belly, belly to back.

  • He can move across the bed by using his feet to dig into the bed/blankets, lift his butt in the air and tilt his head to the side to get moving. It takes him about a minute to move across the bed.
  • He continues to hold his own bottle at feeding time and loves to eat. He eats everything we give him and I let him taste everything that is soft & mushy or able to mash up. Although peas are not his favorite. He'll only eat half of it before he starts to complain/whine.

  • He loves to use his voice. We often wonder what it means when he just screams, shrieks and yell. Sometimes we think he's singing. When he wakes up at 3am for his feeding. He'll lay in his bed and just "sing". If we dont come for awhile and he's tired of "singing", he'll lift both legs in the air and drop them on the bed making this "thump" sound continuously. As to let us know he's awake or he's trying to annoy us. When that's not enough and we dont respond, he gets louder and louder w/his voice until we come to his beckon call. Whatever it is he knows how to keep himself busy until he can't keep himself busy anymore.

  • He laughs at everything. The goofy-est look can get him giggling away at you. A little squeeze and he's laughing away. A peekaboo or a simple hey gets him rolling with laughter. Lift his arms up and he just busts out laughing til no end. He laughs at himself in the mirro. In other words, he is just one happy baby.

  • I dont have stats on him but he's in size 2 diapers (12-18lbs) The diapers are getting a little snug on him so I have to say he's about 17 lbs now. When my sister picks him up, he's a little more than 1/2 her size already! (She's 4'11) When she carries him length-wise, his head is right below her chin and his feet are right above her knees.

  • He is wearing 6-9 months clothes now

  • His sock size is 6-12 months

  • Feet are size 2-3

  • Bathtime continues to be fun & exciting for him. He can splash and kick up enough water to get you pretty wet. Laying and playing in the tub for a good 1/2 hour is how long he has to be in the tub or he gets mad at you for taking him out too soon.

  • He loves to jump in his jumperoo. It is just hilarious to see him just jump away and then plant his feet down on the ground to stop and freeze the jumperoo from moving. When he's standing on your lap, he likes to jump up & down like he's in the jumperoo. I have jokingly told Dave that Kurt's first step will not be a step. It'll be a hop! (ha)

  • He's drooling alot but I dont think he's teething yet. I give him another couple of months before any teeth breaks through the gums. He drools as much as Kyle did when Kyle was a baby. Clothes & blankets are wet & soaked quite often. If he's not drooling, he's sucking on his fingers, thumbs or a pacifier. Seems like the fingers/thumbs are much more preferred over the pacifier. The pacifier seems to be what he wants when he is ready for bed and is super tired. He doesn't want it as much as he used to. From what we can see, he is slowly parting with it from what we can tell.

  • He loves to go to people and is not shy about someone holding him. Stick your arms out and he readily goes to you w/out a fuss.

  • He hates the car seat. He would rather face forward and sit on someone's lap so that he can see the view in front of him.

  • He can almost sit up on his own. He hasn't quite figured out how far to lean back w/out landing on his head/back.

  • If you pat his mouth rhythmically w/the palm of your hand or with 2 fingers, he knows to say, aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah so to make that choppy off & on sound as the hand covers & uncovers his mouth to make a rhythmic sound.

  • When you're talking, he loves to just look up, gaze and watch you talk. He gets so serious and is just so mesmerized by it

  • Pat a Cake, itsy bitsy spider, and any other rhyming type songs just makes him excited and filled w/laughter

He continues to surprise us with his milestones. I look forward to more excitement! Next month is his 1/2 birthday. I also remember at 6 months is when separation anxiety starts to occur. Let's see if he goes through it! Other than that, we will celebrate his 1/2 birthday just like I did w/his brothers when they were 6 months old. Meanwhile, I hope I didn't forget anything else that happened with Kurt at 5 months!
